Madsen Roof Company continued its string of high profile, successful public works projects with its reroof of the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium in the Summer of 2009. The Sacramento Memorial Auditorium is the city's signature building and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Madsen Roof Company's experienced crews were able to work on all phases of the work simultaneously and respond flexibly to the work period limitations caused by ongoing events at the site, which kept the project moving forward despite the many interruptions.

A 3,867 seat multi-purpose venue, the Memorial Auditorium was built in 1926 and first opened to the public in February 1927. For over 80 years, the Memorial Auditorium has hosted countless historic events including concerts, graduations, as well as the 2006 inauguration of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Madsen's work involved the installation of a 60 mil TPA single ply system and new gutters at the main roof, repairs and the application of a coating system to the remaining roof areas and the replacement of the underlayment and broken tiles throughout the structure. This multi-phase project required the utmost care and attention to detail due to the historic significance and local importance of the Memorial Auditorium as a landmark Sacramento fixture.
Madsen's job was further complicated by the need to keep the Memorial Auditorium in operation throughout the project, which resulted in a constantly changing work schedule. The Memorial Auditorium's urban, congested location only added to the project's unique challenges.
Fortunately, Madsen's equipment included a specialized hoist system which allowed the loading of materials and removal of debris from the five story high main roof without the need to close streets. Madsen's experienced crews were able to work on all phases of the work simultaneously and respond flexibly to the work period limitations caused by ongoing events at the site, which kept the project moving forward despite the many interruptions. Madsen combined its experience in completing many difficult projects over 22 years, its highly-skilled crews and its management-centered project supervision policies to provide the Memorial Auditorium with an attractive, durable roof that preserves the historic nature of the building while providing for long term protection from the elements.
According to Christian Madsen, the company's president, "roofing the Memorial Auditorium was a unique experience. It required the combined expertise of the entire Madsen team." Christian noted that "the project was a real challenge, but it was a privilege to work on a building so central to Sacramento's identity."
